Aegon Adviser Attitudes Report 2021

What are the key issues that you face when selecting ESG investments? Please select a maximum of three answers. ESG research is confusing Lack of ESG asset classes to build rounded portfolios Lack of information available on ESG Current range of ESG products is too narrow Asset managers’ ESG credentials are not robust enough Poor performance of ESG products relative to broader market Current range of ESG products is too expensive Other None of the above 38% 26% 24% 22% 14% 10% 9% 4% 16% 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 Other comments centred around failings in the products themselves, with 26% saying that the lack of ESG asset classes to build rounded portfolios made it difficult for them to fully embed ESG within their propositions. A further 22% feel that the current range of ESG products is too narrow and doesn’t offer their clients products that match their investment ethos and goals. Generally speaking, there is better availability of equity- based ESG investments than there is for other asset classes. There’ll be much pressure (and hopefully support) from regulators to nurture ESG investing, so we have confidence that in future surveys, we’ll see these barriers begin to be addressed.
